Within the Woodlands Playroom we care for children primarily from eighteen months to two years but can care for older children depending on their needs. Our Playroom is a fun and vibrant room, where children are empowered to explore and learn.

The team is led by Laura who has a degree in Childhood Studies and has worked at Golden Manor for over fifteen years and supported by Sabrina who has many years’ experience of working in childcare.  We have highly qualified and consistent staff within the room who all work in unison to ensure a caring, fun filled and exciting environment for children to grow.

Children enjoy outside play, forest school, creative arts, sensory play, stories, role play and baking. Each day the children sing and dance using various musical instruments. One wall of this room shows scenes from Canaston Woods, and the flooring of this room is comprised of carpet and non-slip flooring in the wet or messy play area. The room has easily accessibility to outdoor play, with a door leading straight outside onto the decking aera, ensuring inside/outside play is always available.

We welcome children into the nursery environment with settling in sessions with their key person to encourage a positive transition.  Developmental records and daily observations are passed from children’s key workers to their parents/carers for each child.  Children participate in a wide range of child led stimulating activities which match individual needs, encourage holistic play and provide a variety of experiences.  Growing physical skills means that children need active times for exercise, and quieter times for relaxing activities with space for exploring an exciting outside environment or feeling different materials from one of our sensory baskets.

We use British Sign Language throughout the day to help the children express their wants and needs before they can verbalise. We also promote the PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies) programme, which is a social and emotional learning program that helps children develop skills for making positive choices and helps all children to recognise basic emotions and support their emotional development.

The room includes the following areas to enable children the opportunity to choose their play activities during their day at Golden Manor.
